This was a great story with some quirky characters. There was a lot going on in this little town, including gossip galore. There was laughter, romance and a lot of mystery.
It is a good book about friendship with a surprising twist at the end
2017’s ‘Recipe for Love’, co-authored by Jennifer Youngblood and Sandra Poole, was first released under the title of ‘Paper Rose Club,’ in 2011. Both names are quite fitting as the story revolves around a small group of ladies who make up the Paper Rose Club in Honeycomb, in Alabama; several of whom work in a bakery. Welcome to Steel Magnolias meets Days of our Lives – this story oozes southern charm and heartbreaking “issues.” We don’t know until the end, who is responsible for the mysterious dairy entries that move the suspense and plot along at a nice clip. The authors left room for a sequel, to be sure, as I was left wondering about certain potential couples. Solid, clean and gossipy, this seventeen-chapter, nicely done Indie book scores three stars from me – three and a half, if I could. Dana at Fiction Ebook Reviews.
The story opens with a group of young friends in a small town starting the Paper Rose Club, and then jumps to see the lives of the club members 30+ years later. This story has several romantic subplots but is really more the story of the ups and downs of making friendships last in spite of heartache, betrayal, and many other difficulties of life. The characters have very diverse personalities and the story has several plot twists. The author effectively pulls the readers along and keeps them guessing both the meaning and the source of the diary entries until late in the book. The last few chapters are more of an appendix with several Busy Bee Reporter articles about events in the small town that follow the timeline of the book. The story definitely has the “to be continued…” feel to it with the reader wondering if Bobbie will become the town’s super sleuth and if her cookie recipe actually is a recipe for love.
